The landscapes of Madeira are dramatic, with mountains and sheer cliffs going down to the sea. The vegetation is lush and the entire island is crisscrossed with hiking trails. It has a lot to offer people who enjoy walking.
There are beaches but because the island is of volcanic origin, some of the beaches have black sand. Much of the coastline is rocky.
The volcanic visitor centre and lava tunnels are interesting to visit.
